Reading is a fundamental life skill for students. It is imperative that students continue their learning of reading at home. Please be sure to encourage your child to read daily. This page will help guide you in aiding in your child's reading instruction.

Reading Classwork Each Friday you will need to take a picture of the assignment provided and send to your teacher. Remember, you will receive house points and participation credit for work that is submitted. We will call to provide feedback to students on work they share.

Reading Comprehension
Included is a set of discussion prompts and question stems that align with the reading standards for second grade. Parents are encouraged to ask questions before, during and after your child reads a book.

Reading Activity Ideas
- Sit down and have the child read the book to you. Listen and pause at times to ask comprehension questions. Who are the characters so far? What are they doing? Why are they doing that? Etc.
- Have the child read the book to you. Take the book from your child and ask them to retell you the story in their own words.
- Read the book with your child. Ask your child to draw their favorite part of the story and write a few sentences about why it was their favorite part.
- Read the book with your child. Ask your child to write the beginning, middle and end of the story.
- After reading a couple of books. Ask the child to compare and contrast both books (How are they the same? How are they different?)
- Make it fun! Read the books in different places at home. Read it in funny voices. Read it to a younger friend. Read it aloud to the family.
